Dymaxion Corp. 2023 Action
Dymaxion Final Assembly
Soundpedro 2023
a durational installation performance
Description:
- 2 technicians are working at 2 workstations which face each other in the center of the workspace. the technicians refer to a white board with work instructions to be carried out over the duration of the performance.
- Work Instruction whiteboard is gridded
- y axis (tool) represents the sound creating "tools" (channels)
- x axis (time) is time subdivisions (10/15 minutes)
- each grid section contains a glyph which indicates an action to be done during the time indicated by time with the tool called out by tool
- Tools are sound creating devices
- Each tool is connnected to its own amplifying unit, positioned in the space
- Each tool and its amplifying unit will be color-coded for clarity, as should the connecting cable.
- Each technician will be assigned some number of the tools to perform the work instructions on. The distribution between the technicians should be roughly equal.
- The sound tools set up to emit a sustained pitch or drone, each tool has additional means to modify that drone (internally or externally patched to the tool)
- Upon activation, each tool's output frequency should be aligned with the central frequency of the drone.
- the central frequency of the drone may be established by either the first technician to activate a tool, or agreed upon prior to the performance.
- The performance begins when the one or both technichans are ready to begin work and ends when the time has elapsed to the end of the time period marked by the time axis.
Work Instructions
- Work Instructions must be obvious to the technicians.
- Work instructions will be reprepresented by a distinct glyph which must be easily readible from 2 meters
- Each work instruction must denote an action and its inverse,as well as a small modification adding or subtracting to the the quality of the indicated tool, in the case that the same glyph occurs in succession, some work must be carried out, no repeated glyph should denote no changes/work performed
- Example work instruction actions, listed as the obverse and reverse action
- Activate/Deactivate tool
- Add/Reduce Complexity to the timber of the tool's output
- Add/Remove a parallel voice/channel of the tool
- Add/Remove modulation to the tool's output
- Add/Remove a spatial effect to the tool's output
- Move the tool's output pitch Away From/Towards the central frequency of the drone
- Reduce/Increase the volume of the tool's output to make it stand out or blend in with the other tools' outputs
